  • Beginner-friendly custom dashboard
  • Amazing uptime
  • Decent global speed performance

Site Ground Good Side

1. Excellent Security + Backups

SiteGround Review

After thorough research, we found that SiteGround has its own team of dedicated server security experts. They also invest significantly in their infrastructure.

2. SiteGround Uses Google’s Cloud Platform

After personally using SiteGround, I discovered they use Google’s C2 Cloud server technology. This provides scalable managed cloud hosting, ideal for growing businesses of any size.

While it’s pricier than shared hosting, the advantages are well worth it. SiteGround handles all the technical setup and infrastructure, so clients don’t have to worry about configuring or maintaining their servers.

3. 24/7 Outstanding Customer Support

After many interactions with SiteGround’s customer support, I can confidently say they are committed to excellence. We rated their priority support team very highly, especially compared to the hundreds of hosts we’ve tested over the past year.

4. Beginner-Friendly Custom Dashboard

If you’re using a different web host, you’re probably familiar with the traditional cPanel dashboard. However, SiteGround has developed its own custom dashboard, which I find much more intuitive and user-friendly than cPanel.

This custom dashboard addresses several common issues that users face with hosting accounts from other providers:

  • Simplified dashboard instead of a cluttered confusing view
  • Intuitive navigation to easily find the tools you need
  • No upsells or aggressive promotional offers
  • Range of easy 1-click install options suitable for beginners and pros alike!

5. Amazing Uptime

In 2022, SiteGround averaged 100% uptime, a benchmark that most other hosts don’t even come close to achieving!

6. Decent Global Speed Performance

After recommending SiteGround to one of my clients, they reported excellent speed performance for their business websites. This is largely due to SiteGround’s “blazing-fast” global in-house CDN.

SiteGround has servers in various locations worldwide, making it easy to choose a server close to your target audience. They also invest in server-side caching technology and offer a performance optimization plugin for WordPress users to enhance website performance even further.

7. Officially Recommended by WordPress

SiteGround is one of only three web hosts officially recommended by WordPress, the world’s most popular website-building platform. We also conducted a comparison between SiteGround and WP Engine, which you can check for a detailed analysis of their features.

8. Free SSL Certificates

Through extensive research, our team discovered that SiteGround was among the pioneers in integrating Let’s Encrypt, a provider of free SSL certificates. Going beyond, they automated the issuance and renewal of SSL certificates directly within their platform. With their 1-click SSL installation option, SiteGround has made securing websites incredibly simple for everyone.

The Bas Side

1. Expensive Renewals

One of my clients noted that while SiteGround offers up to an 80% discount on its shared hosting services initially, they increase their prices significantly for renewals, sometimes up to five times as much.

SiteGround Review

There are indeed cheaper hosting providers out there that offer longer discounted rates than SiteGround. However, it’s important to note that few of these cheap providers offer the same level of value as SiteGround.

2. No Free Domain Name or Other Business Services

SiteGround doesn’t provide a wide range of additional services for businesses to manage all their website needs. For example, they don’t offer a free domain name with hosting, separate email hosting, or marketing add-ons.

While you can purchase and transfer domains to SiteGround, their domain prices tend to be higher than the industry average. If you’re seeking an all-in-one web host, consider companies like GoDaddy or Namecheap, which may offer more comprehensive options for your needs.

3. No VPS Hosting or Dedicated Servers

SiteGround offers cloud services instead of traditional VPS or dedicated hosting options. We find SiteGround’s cloud services to be superior to many VPS and dedicated hosting solutions currently available.

With VPS or dedicated hosting, your website relies on a single server. If something happens to that server, your website could go offline. In contrast, cloud services distribute your website’s files across a global network of servers. This setup enhances safety, security, and ensures unparalleled uptime by reducing the risk of downtime due to server issues.

4. Limited Storage on Shared Plans and WordPress Hosting

SiteGround allows you to host unlimited sites on most of its shared and WordPress hosting plans, but it provides limited storage space for these sites. Compared to providers like Hostinger, which offer starting plans with 50GB of SSD storage, SiteGround’s storage limits may feel restrictive to some users.

5. No “In-Between” Hosting Options

If you find that SiteGround’s shared hosting plans don’t offer enough storage, but you’re not ready to invest in their cloud hosting, which starts at $100/month, there are no intermediate options available.

This gap is typically filled by VPS and dedicated server plans offered by other hosting companies, which provide options in both price and resources.

If this limitation is a deal-breaker for you, I recommend checking out our article on the best unlimited web hosting providers. It lists companies that offer excellent value and unlimited storage at more affordable prices compared to SiteGround’s higher-tier plans.

SiteGround Hosting Plans

SiteGround Review

If you’ve decided that SiteGround sounds like a decent company for your needs, here are the details on each of their services.

1. Shared Hosting

SiteGround offers promotional pricing on all its shared plans, but based on my experience and client feedback, the cheapest rates require paying one year of hosting upfront. Unlike other web hosts that offer their lowest rates for up to three-year terms, SiteGround’s renewal pricing can be as much as five times the cost of the promotional prices.

Web Hosting PlanPromotional PricingRenewal PricingFeatures Included
StartUp$2.99/month$14.99/month1 website, 10GB storage & unmetered traffic.
GrowBig$4.99/month$24.99/monthUnlimited sites, 20GB storage & unmetered traffic.
GoGeek$7.99/month$39.99/monthUnlimited sites, 40GB storage & unmetered traffic.

2. WordPress Hosting

SiteGround offers two types of WordPress hosting services:

  • Managed WordPress hosting
  • Managed WooCommerce hosting for WP eCommerce stores

In both cases, the prices and package inclusions match the shared plans with additional WordPress specific features included.

This is great value if you run a WordPress site as you essentially get a stack of extra features for free. These include:

  • Free site transfer
  • WordPress automatically installed
  • Free WordPress Starter tool
  • A range of popular plugins included in your dashboard
  • 1-click WordPress installs
  • Managed WP security and updates
  • Optimized WordPress hosting performance
  • WooCommerce pre-installed (on the WooCommerce plans)

3. Cloud Hosting

There are four cloud hosting options to choose from which really raise the bar compared to SiteGround’s shared plans.

Web Hosting PlanPricingFeatures Included
Jump Start$100/month4 CPU cores, 8GB memory, 40GB SSD storage & 5TB data transfer.
Business$200/month8 CPU cores, 12GB memory, 80GB SSD storage & 5TB data transfer.
Business Plus$300/month12 CPU cores, 16GB memory, 120GB SSD storage & 5TB data transfer.
Super Power$400/month16 CPU cores, 20GB memory, 160GB SSD storage & 5TB data transfer.

You can also configure your own Custom Cloud setup which offers the following:

  • CPU Cores: 4 to 33
  • Memory: 8GB to 130 GB
  • SSD Space: 40GB to 1TB

All of SiteGround’s cloud hosting plans run on Google’s scalable and reputable C2 cloud technology. However, if you’re seeking a solution that lets you manage your own sever setup, that’s not available with SiteGround.

4. Reseller Hosting

SiteGround offers a reseller web hosting which also replicates the shared hosting plans. However, the most notable difference is that you can manage unlimited sites on all plans.

Web Hosting PlanPromotional PricingRenewal PricingFeatures Included
GrowBig$4.99/month$24.99/monthUnlimited websites, 20 GB storage & unmetered traffic.
GoGeek$7.99/month$39.99/monthUnlimited websites, 40 GB storage & unmetered traffic.
CloudN/AFrom $100/monthUnlimited websites, 40+ GB storage & unmetered traffic.

SiteGround allows you to register your clients as users in your account and provide them with white-label access. This means they can use their own branding and won’t see SiteGround’s branding anywhere, allowing you to offer a fully customized, white-labeled web hosting service.

Their reseller hosting plans are ideal for agencies and freelancers who offer web design or web-related marketing services and want to maintain their branding throughout the client experience.

Features

1. Disk Space

Having used SiteGround for one of my websites, I opted for their mid-tier storage option. I found that SiteGround offers limited disk space on both their shared and WordPress hosting services.

Compared to other companies that provide 50GB on their smallest tiers for as low as $1.99/month, SiteGround’s pricing may seem higher for what they offer in terms of storage.

If you require storage-optimized hosting with SiteGround, I recommend customizing your own cloud setup. This way, you can select anywhere between 40GB and 1TB of SSD storage according to your specific needs.

2. Backups

Having used SiteGround myself, I can confirm that they provide automated daily backup plans at no extra cost. They also enhance security by storing data across multiple platforms.

SiteGround Review

3. Security

SiteGround offers excellent security features. In fact, we’re impressed by their commitment and dedication to providing top-tier security, which is why we’ve recognized SiteGround as one of the best web hosting companies in 2024.

Here are SiteGround’s security features in a nutshell:

4. Servers & Locations

For anyone targeting specific audiences in particular locations, it’s crucial to consider the geographical location of your website’s servers.

SiteGround Review

SiteGround offers a flexible approach with their global data centers, which are located in 7 different locations around the world. These locations include:

  • Iowa, USA
  • London, UK
  • Eemshaven, Netherlands

Performance

To determine SiteGround’s website speed and performance, our team will share the results of our tests.

1. Speed

With website speed being among the most critical factors for user experience, it’s no surprise Google has also made it an official ranking factor.

Below are the results of the test:

SiteGround
GT Metrix PerformanceGT Metrix TTFB

Tokyo96792ms
London951.79s
Washington DC86720ms
Sydney961.21s

Our tests using GT Metrix and Pingdom revealed slight performance dips when accessed from servers in London. However, it’s important to note that our test website wasn’t hosted on SiteGround’s London servers, so opting for local UK servers could potentially deliver excellent performance within the region compared to US-based servers.

Despite this, SiteGround’s performance scores from various global locations outshine those of many competitors. For instance, FastComet stands out as a top performer, consistently leading our rankings for web hosting in regions like Nigeria, Australia, South Africa, and even Nepal.

2. Uptime

SiteGround boasts exceptional uptime performance, consistently achieving a flawless average of 100%. In comparison, we’ve also examined FastComet’s uptime data, which complements our previous findings.
